On Friday, September 2, 2022, our team visited the Special Correctional Centre for Girls in Idi-Araba, Lagos State, to educate the children about their fundamental human rights through our "My Rights, My Freedom" project. During the visit, we also held a legal clinic where the children without legal representation were able to consult with our lawyers and present their cases.
The children shared their difficulties in understanding court proceedings and recounted personal experiences they did not recognize as violations of their rights. Many had come to accept these abuses as normal due to the influence of their abusers.
While we were deeply moved by the troubling stories we heard, we were also encouraged by the opportunity to reorient these young individuals and offer them hope for a brighter future.
