Femi was a commercial bus driver in Lagos State. He hires Bus and remits the sum of #6,000 daily as a usage fee for the bus.
In February 2018, Femi’s Bus was seized by men of the Police Taskforce who directed him to SARS Command to recover the said Bus. Unknown to Femi, his life was about to take a 360-degree turn for the worse, as he was subsequently arrested at the SARS Command on the allegation that he was an armed robber and an accomplice to his conductor-Seyi.
Femi maintained his innocence and refuted the allegations. Two statements were written for him after he was tortured. The IPO requested the sum of #100,000 from Femi to guarantee his release and do away with the charges. Femi and his relatives could not pay the money, as a result, Femi was charged to the Magistrate Court in 2018 and subsequently remanded in prison custody.
In 2019, he appeared at the High Court six times without being able to secure adequate legal representation due to his indigent status.
Fortunately, sometime in 2021, Femi came in contact with our lawyer who took his case, compiled his case file, and assigned it to the firm of Abdulsalaam Abbass & Co - our partner. They accepted to represent Femi on a pro bono basis (free of charge). The firm detailed a team of two bright lawyers namely Khalid Abbas-a partner, and George Ayanjompe-an associate to undertake the defense of Femi.
After over a year of assiduously deploying resources and putting up a dogged defense for Femi, on the 14th day of June 2022, our partner firm- @abdusalaamabbasc secured the freedom of Femi and Seyi.
